| The Duracoat Process |
|---|
|
Guns are fully cleaned with whatever medium is most suitable (Soapy water or a dam cloth mainly), once the gun is "clean" they are degreased using pure alcohol which fully evoporates and does not leave a residue. Once the gun has been degreased it will only be handled while gloved. The surface is then prepared to receive the duracoat. Anodized surfaces do not generally need this preparation, but any scratches or smoothed spots on an anodized frame will be sanded slightly to make a suitable surface for the coating to adhere too.
Once the gun is clean, parts that are not to be coated will be taped off. With an Air Force frame painters tape is applied along the edge of the frame to prevent coating bleeding inside and paper is rolled up to prevent overspray making its way inside. Item is then hung in my makeshift spray booth where it can be rotated so I can spray the part at several angles ensuring a full and even coat.
